Ex-GWR Hall class 4-6-0 No 4962 'Ragley Hall' stops in order to be prepared for work at Saltley shed

Ex-GWR Hall class 4-6-0 No 4962 'Ragley Hall' stops in order to be prepared for work at Saltley shed. The Hall had probably worked in from Bordesley shed, an occurrence that became more common in the 1960s. This was intended to increase competitiveness and reduced the time taken in moving goods from one region to another. It was a case of to little too late. The oil barrel on the left has been raised to make it easier for the crew to draw off the oil that they would use to oil the bearings and motion of their locomotive. This barrel and the ex-WD 2-8-0 seen in the background were also visible in image 'mrsalt1262'. Built at Swindon works to Lot 254 in November 1929, No 4962 remained in service until October 1965 when it was withdrawn from 81F Oxford shed.
