British Railways Bush Traction Type 4 Co-Co 1709 stands outside Saltley shed in July 1969 as in the background track is being lifted. With steam powered locomotives completely eliminated from British Railways' main lines there is no need to add the 'D' before the locomotive's number. Built by Brush Traction of Loughborough in January 1964, 1709 was to remain in service until March 1991 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped by CF Booth of Rotherham.
