A broadside view of ex LMS 2-6-4T No 42421, standing in front of the offices, with water tank above, at Saltley shed. The final batch of Fowler's 2-6-4T locomotives, from No 2395 to No 2424, had a side window and doors in their cabs a feature added by Stanier when he became Chief Mechanical Engineer prior to building his own version of the 2-6-4T 4MT class which were fitted with a tapered boiler and a different bogie.
