LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Saltley Shed: mrsalt434

Ex-MR 2F 0-6-0s No 3063 and No 2978, both members of MR's 1357 class, are seen stored alongside Saltley No 3 roundhouse. Built by R Stephenson & Co in April 1880, No 3063 remained in service until September 1934 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed in to be scrapped by Derby works. Both locomotives have their chimney's covered to prevent the ingress of water. This protection was required because rainwater could enter into the cylinders and rust would affect the cylinders causing damaged when being being moved.
