View from the turntable of one of Saltley's two roundhouses towards the other with a BR Standard locomotive in company with two ex-LMS engines on 15th September 1963. Bob Pixton in his excellent book "Birmingham-Derby - Portrait of a Famous Route" records that the above photograph was taken in the same month that British Railways re-coded Saltley from the long familiar 21A to 2E. Compared to the earlier photograph seen in image 'mrsalt436' the ravages of the Second World War have long gone and the shed is now much cleaner with the turntable pit painted white for better visibility.
