LMS 2-6-0+0-6-2 Garratt No 7978 is seen in steam stabled on one of Saltley shed's stabling roads in front of No 3 roundhouse 30th November 1947. In front of No 7978 is a mix of old Midland coaching stock including what appears to be a Midland six-wheel brake van. The use of old coaching stock for additional mess or storage facilities was common and they would either be used to provide additional on-site accommodation or in this instance they might also be used to accompany Saltley's brake down train.
