LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Saltley Shed: mrsalt973

Ex-MR 2P 4-4-0 No 511 stands outside Saltley shed with other ex-Midland engines on Sunday 25th July 1948. On the right is 1F 0-6-0T No 1879 a member of the MR's 1121 class. The 2P was built by Sharp Stewart in November 1899 and was allocated to Saltley at the time of the photograph but was later reallocated to 18A Toton shed from where it was withdrawn as BR No 40511 in January 1961 to be scrapped by Derby works. The 1F 0-6-0T was built in the same year as No 511 but in June 1899 and it remained in service until March 1960 when it was withdrawn from Barrow Road shed in Bristol to be scrapped by Derby works.
