LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48185 is being prepared to return to its home shed of Toton during the 1960s. This was one of several 8F locomotives fitted with 50% its reciprocating weights balanced in order to reduce the fore and aft oscillation in order that it could be used on Class E express freights with a top speed of 55 mph. Built by the North British Locomotive Company in April 1942, No 48185 remained in service until February 1967 when it was withdrawn from Sutton Oak shed.
