Ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 44538 heads a down express freight on the down passenger line on 8th August 1955. The photographer is standing inside Saltley Signal Box to take the photograph of the 17B Burton allocated locomotive. Built by Crewe works in October 1928, No 44538 was to remain in service until January 1964 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped.
