Close up of image 'mrsalt99' showing railwaymen looking on as Saltley shed's breakdown crane is being employed to the front of the No 3 roundhouse. Both LMS 2P 4-4-0 No 699 and ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 3321 are standing on the access road to No 3 shed. The steam breakdown crane would be mounted on bogies on the track to the right and as normal, would have at least one match wagon coupled to one end of the crane. The crane was not self-propelled but moved by locomotives, the crane's boiler only being required to raise steam to lift and to turn. The crane is therefore slewn round at about 80° to the track and its jib would be pointing to the right out of view.
