Bridge no 22 - View showing the span of the bridge carrying the Chester Road has been reduced by 1956. When compared to the 1921 view seen in image 'mrsbr1185' the left hand abutment has been enlarged and this has resulted in the bridge having a span sufficient for just one track. The date and the reason for this work is unknown but in all probability there was a need to increase the load capacity of the bridge and the easiest method of strengthening the girders was by reducing the distance between the two abutments. The Chester Road was once the main route to the North West from Coventry and district prior to the opening of the M6. Packington Hall Estate sidings, just beyond the bridge, served to transport coal inwards and timber outwards. The sidings were closed for this purpose by the 1930s.
