LMS Route: Hampton in Arden to Whitacre
B&DJR Documentation: mrsbr1867d
An 1877 Timetable showing the reduced service of one mixed
train between Hampton and Whitacre each day. In this instance the first and
return services commences and terminates at from Whitacre. This may infer that
the locomotive was no longer stabled at Hampton and was now shedded at Lawley
Street, the Midland Railway's shed prior to the opening of Saltley shed. The
Hampton shed was certainly no longer in use as an engine shed because as Roger
Waring states in the definitive history of the line, it was recorded in 1884 to
be let to Wyckham Blackwell, a local timber, coal and corn merchant who used
the premises as a saw mill.
