View of Selly Oak station's newly commissioned signal box and the demolition of the original 1885 structure. The date of this photograph is given as 19th January 1958 which is the date also given as the date the new signal box was commissioned. From the look of the original signal box it would appear the signal box closed some days earlier. The 19th January 1958 was a Sunday, an appropriate day to change over the mechanical systems from one box to another. It is therefore the writer's suggestion that the photograph was taken at least seven days after the box was decommissioned.
