Close up of image 'mrsp581' showing the station's booking office
and goods shed and yard in greater detail. The poster boards have LMS as their
title whilst the machine sited at the corner of the station building is thought
to be a weighing machine for small parcels. Adjacent to the door nearest the
camera is an early vending machine which would selling for one penny (1D),
either be a bar of chocolate or a packet of five cigarettes Inside the goods
shed is what appears to be a one or three plank wagon with a ventilated van
standing behind. The goods shed would have a platform inside which allowed
ports to move loads by use of their porters' barrows, the platform level being
akin to the floor of the wagon. Some loads could be wheeled directly off the
wagon into an adjacent road vehicle standing outside the opposite wall. The
sign at the end of the platform warns passengers not to stray from the
platform. The loading gauge can be seen at the far end of the yard whilst the
white structure is in fact the base of the cattle pens.
