LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

Ex-LNWR 0-8-0 No 49381 runs through the up platform after passing under Anchorage Road bridge on 7th March 1964. The locomotive is heading the 9:30am Water Orton to Wolverhampton Type 4 express freight service. From 1961 with the introduction of other forms of traction, British Railways introduced a new train classification system. A Type 4 was therefore a train with vacuum pipes fitted throughout with the automatic brake operative on NOT less than 90% of the vehicles operating at a maximum speed of 55 mph.
