LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

Sutton Park Station: mrspk341

Looking towards Walsall from the Water Orton end of Sutton Park station's island platform

Looking towards Walsall and the goods yard from the Water Orton end of Sutton Park station's island platform during the late 1940s. The up platform (on the left) to Walsall was staggered in relation to the island platform being sited a little further towards Water Orton. The entrance to the station by road was via Upper Clifton Road although there was pedestrian access direct from Anchorage Road too. The up platform faced on to the main through line at the end of which was the signal box which also controlled access to the goods yard and shed seen in the distance. The footbridge provided access to all three platforms for passengers, plus from a thoroughfare described as Midland Road - which appears to be unadopted and limited to just pedestrians - which was situated behind the trees on the right of the photograph. A local paper cutting (regrettably minus publication and date) states 'the footbridge led to Mulroy Road and the Midland Lodge entrance to the park'.
