LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

Sutton Park Station: mrspk344b

Close up of the Water Orton end of the island platform showing the water crane used by down trains

Close up of image 'mrspk344' of the Water Orton end of the island platform showing the water crane used by down trains. The water crane appears to be a standard Midland Railway design with a square base surmounted by a cylindrical column topped with a swan's neck arm. The arm appears to be lighter in colour but it is not thought to be wearing its original MR colour scheme of Venetian Red and Denby Cream but just dark grey foe the column and a lighter grey for the arm. Adjacent to the water column is a lamp post sited to provide light at night. At their feet are the ashes from a now removed brazier or 'fire devil' used to stop the column freezing up during the winter months. The opposite island platform appears to be disused as the track ceases on the right.
