LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall

An unidentified Midland Railway tank locomotive, running bunker first, stands at the down platform on a local passenger service to New Street station. On the left is a standard Midland Railway signal box which would have controlled access to the station's three platforms. The lamp posts appear to be lit by gas which would seem to indicate that there was access to the area's gas main. The photographer is standing on the bridge carrying Thornhill Road over the railway.
