LMS Route: Water Orton to Walsall
Streetly Station: mrst339
LMS 4F 0-6-0 No 4069 is seen working tender first at the
head of an engineer's ballast train one Sunday in the 1930s. The station
building at Streetly was built to a similar design to those at Penns and
Streetly in that it had the two outside sections of the building were set
forward to the centre portion. In this view this centre portion appears to have
a canopy suspended between the two 'wings' whilst single storey extensions
exist on both sides. The track to the down line has recently been renewed
within the confines of the station with the absence of sleepers in the four
foot beneath the tender seeming to confirm that this work was carried out very
recently. To the right of the tender, on the platform, are spare sleepers
complete with chairs. The line never generated significant volumes of passenger
traffic but it proved itself to be very useful when diversions were required
for traffic from other routes as well as for carrying freight.
