LMS Route: Evesham to Birmingham
Studley & Astwood Bank Station: mrstud598a
Close up of image 'mrstud598' showing a rake of mineral wagons
being used to transport coal and a coal merchant's lorry being loaded. Above
the cab of the locomotive is a timber frame from which the loading gauge would
be suspended. The loading gauge was a piece of metal shaped to the outline of
the maximum dimensions permissible on the line. Railway staff would ensure
railway goods vehicles passed beneath the gauge when the left the yard and that
no load hit the loading gauge. To its left is one of the coal merchant's
offices. The Stage seen in image 'mrstud1371'
would have been located just behind the locomotive.
