LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth
Tamworth High Level Station: mrthl1834
Looking obliquely south towards Wilnecote with the a waiting
room and lift tower, both constructed using timber, on the right in 1911. The
finial on the roof of the other lift tower can just be seen. In between the two
lift towers was the bridge carrying the MR line to Birmingham over the LNWR's
Trent Valley line. The nearest lift tower would be used to transfer postal bags
between the Low Level up platform and the High Level down platform. The
furthest lift tower was used to transfer postal bags between the Low Level down
platform and the High Level down platform. A third lift tower was sited
opposite the latter to transfer postal bags between the Low Level down platform
and the High Level up platform.
