LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth
Tamworth High Level Station: mrthl447b
Close up of image 'mrthl447' showing Tamworth High Level
signal box which was located at the Derby end of the platform. The first
building on the left was the gentleman's toilets, the second was believed to be
the ladies and the others waiting rooms. The signal box, named 'High Level
Signal Box' was opened in August 1925 and replaced two boxes, one at each end
of the station known as 'North' and 'South' signal boxes. The new box built to
an LMS design is cantilevered supported by ornate ironwork and has a 'cat walk'
in front of the windows to assist the signalman in gaining access to keep the
windows clean.
