LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Tamworth

Wilnecote Station: mrw1283

View from the top of the ramp by Watling Street bridge down to the northbound or up platform

View from the top of the ramp by Watling Street bridge down to the northbound or up platform which shows most of the Station's facilities: The corner of the original Birmingham and Derby Railway building on the left with the steps down from the main road, the Midland Railway era ladies waiting room in the centre and the gentlemen's station's lavatory beyond. In the foreground is the back of the up platform waiting shelter showing its welsh slate roof. At the top of the cutting behind the ladies waiting room is the station's substantial bicycle shelter. The large scale Ordnance Survey maps for 1884, 1902 and 1923 all indicate that there were formerly two small buildings between the ladies waiting room and the gentlemen's toilet. The ladies waiting room was already built in 1884, whilst at that time the site of the gentlemen's toilet was occupied by a differently shaped building of similar overall size. Photograph taken on 21st March 1967.
