This close up of image 'mrwhg345' shows one of the signal boxes. Of interest to the modeler is the coal bunker at the bottom of the telegraph pole, the toilet at the rear of the signal box and the steps with the off-set landing. The off-set landing appears to be a standard across many if not all Midland Railway signal boxes.

In all probability it was a safety feature to prevent the signalman from stepping out at night and, with initially poor night vision, falling down the steps. The shed to the left is probably for the use of shunters as indicated by what appears to be their long tools propped on the side of the shed. Someone is obviously having "a brew" as smoke can be seen exiting from the chimney.
