Looking towards Bromford Bridge from Washwood Heath Sidings No 1 Signal Box with an unidentified ex-LMS 4F 0-6-0 standing on the bank sidings on 12th May 1961. The sweep of the four roads which constituted the main running lines on the Derby to Birmingham route as it passed through Washwood Heath can be seen passing under Aston Church Road and the former LNWR bridge carrying the Aston to Stechford line over the railway. The last two arches of both bridges spanned the River Rea which can just be seen on the right. The main up passenger line which passed immediately alongside the signal box had a turnout that routed traffic for the up sidings on to the up goods line.
