controlled the shunting neck and the twenty-three sidings of the Back Fan or
Coal Bank. In front of the photographer are some of the four roads of the 'Old
Coal Bank Sidings'. Bob Essery writes in Midland Journal No 26, 'this
was not a block post; it was opened on 24th August 1923 when the down
gravitational sidings came into use, and made a shunting frame on 24th August
1969 before being taken out of use on 18th November 1973. 31st October 1971
