Ex-MR 1P 2-4-0 No 19 heads a westward bound local out of Whitacre Station, just after the grouping of 1923. This former Midland Railway double framed veteran, which was carrying a Birmingham shedplate, was one of the twenty-one Johnson rebuilds of Kirtley's "156" class to be inherited by the recently formed LMSR. The single line, branching away from the main line in the background, is the freight only Hampton branch. This had closed to passengers in 1917, and was to be closed to all through traffic by the mid 1930s. No.19 was maintained in service for several more years, eventually being withdrawn in 1933.
