Looking towards Water Orton junction with the fast line to Derby on the left and the line to Leicester on the right in 1958. Express services to Derby, both passenger and freight, would use the on the left whilst slower goods traffic would proceed on the Leicester line to Whitacre where it would take the original 1839 B&DJR line to Derby. In the distance on the Leicester line a locomotive is standing in the down refuge siding.
