On the left an unknown MR 0-6-0 is shunting some of the many wagons that the yard could handle. Bob Essery states that the marshalling sidings could accommodate 947 wagons whilst the storage sidings could accommodate a further 624 wagons. There was also additional capacity in the engineer's siding on the down side as well as local goods sidings on the up side.
