The main passenger facilities were situated within the timber structure on the island platform and would have included a general waiting room and a ladies waiting room. The gentlemen's toilet would be a separate facility accessed from the platform, however the ladies toilets would be accessed from within the ladies waiting room. The use of island platforms allowed the railway to be economical both in the number of buildings to be built but also in the number of staff required. This type of layout was used extensively on the Great Central Railway's London extension opened in 1899.
