A view of Water Orton's goods yard, the access road from Birmingham Road, and its two sidings in November 1964. In the foreground on the left is part of the weighbridge office whilst the siding on the left shows the long abandoned cattle and loading dock. On the right is the jib of a motorised mobile road crane whilst in the background adjacent to the other siding are two lorries being loaded from an open wagon at the back and a vent van at the front. Behind the lorries at the far end of the siding is an electromagnetic crane used for transferring scrap metal from road to rail or vice versa. Brian Hughes recounts that 'this yard saw two locomotives scrapped there in 1962. An unidentified MR 2F 0-6-0 locomotive and a MR 2P 4-4-0 No 40396 which was at its withdrawal allocated to 17B Burton shed'. Brian states that both locomotives were scrapped by a local scrap dealer by the name of 'Bridges' whereas other sources (http://brdatabase.info) state it was scrapped by J Cohens of Kingsbury. The photograph was taken from the station overbridge.
