Looking from the Warwick to Banbury road overbridge as an
unidentified ex-MR 2F 0-6-0 speeds through Burton Dassett towards Fenny Compton
on the 12:15pm Stratford upon Avon to Blisworth service in October 1930. Arthur
Jordan states that the train comprised a Midland Clerestory composite as the
fourth vehicle which was detached at Byfield forming a connection into the
former Great Central Woodford & Hinton station. The Tarmac wagons are
standing on the goods loop from which the now derelict Edge Hill Light Railway
can be seen branching off to the left. The goods loop ran from Burton Dassett
Platform to near Milepost 20. In 1942 this was extended further west to West
End Ground Frame, making the loop over a mile long. Burton Dassett Platform is
only being used as a goods office when the photographer, Dr JR Hollick, took
this photograph. Dr Hollick was standing on Bridge No 66 which carried the
Warwick to Banbury Road over the railway.
