Close up showing the buffer stop to what appears to be a the siding made up of old railway sleepers

Close up of image 'smjboa' showing the buffer stop to what appears to be a the siding made up of old railway sleepers, with two vertical sleepers positioned on the outside of the rails and two horizontals, one immediately above the rails and the other at buffer height. Where the vertical and uppermost horizontal sleepers meet, another sleeper on the rake has been erected to counter any force hitting the buffer. The rails are also some 2 feet higher than the running line which would seem to preclude it being a siding. However, Barry Taylor, who contacted the web master regarding this photograph, maintains that there was a siding at Bidford on Avon station in addition to the private sidings which lay beyond the bridge. This assertion is not supported by the photograph seen in image'smjboa162' which shows the full length of the platform including its rear view, nor the 1904 Ordnance Survey map which covers the approximate period of the photograph though to be circa 1910. Behind the 'buffer stop' is the entrance to the station which ran for a short distance parallel to the road crossing the railway.
