The problem of providing secure and additional accommodation for parcels and stores was solved by the simple process of using the bodies of former railway vehicles. In this instance it appears to be an old six-wheel guards coach has been grounded on the up platform together with a timber shed. On the otherside of the level crossing are the steel beams of the bridge carrying the railway over the lane. The up refuge siding is controlled by the small signal, its more diminutive stature ensuring it cannot be confused as the main running line's signal. This underpass would often flood during periods of heavy rain as can be seen in image 'smjfc174'.
