An eclectic mix of people gather on the platform of Kineton station prior to the station being opened in 1871. On the right hand corner of the building appears to be several point levers lying on their side prior to being installed. In the centre is at least one surveyor with his either a theodolite or dumpy level, and possibly two colleagues plus several officers of the East & West Junction Railway. On the left are four men in labourers attire, probably some of the railway navies employed in building the line. In addition to the pony trap on the right are several assorted horse-drawn trailers.
