LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare
Route
SMJ Locomotives: smjsa124
An unidentified ex-WD 2-8-0 locomotive is seen crossing the
bridge carrying the former SMJ route over the River Avon. The open wagons
behind the tender appear to be mainly steel bodied vehicles built by British
Railways in the 1950s. The railway bridge was widened in the 1990s to carry
road traffic using the new road constructed from the site of the former
Alcester Road level crossing to Shipston Road via the track beds of part of the
former GWR Stratford upon Avon to Honeybourne line and the former SMJ line from
Stratford to Fenny Compton.
