E&WJR and SMJ - Locomotives and Rolling Stock: smjsa335

SMJ 2-4-0 No 5, one of the locomotives from the E&WJR days, is seen standing outside the shed with the cattle dock behind. With its deep overhanging bunker, the locomotive was rather unsteady when running bunker first and on the Broom to Stratford line were prohibited to run in that configuration. They were however, more an adequate to handle the E&WJR's passenger services were often seen working three E&WJR four-wheel coaches plus up to five Great Central Railway eight-wheel coaches between Stratford and Byfield.
