In this close up of image 'smjsa44' passengers can be seen
to be leaving the platform with half of them also wheeling bicycles from the
train. Most railways provided either storage facilities at stations or would
convey the bicycle in the guards van for free or a relatively small fee. The
rural nature of the line and the location of the stations relative to areas of
housing meant that many passengers on the SMJ would need transport at both ends
of their journey.
