Ex-E&WJR 0-6-0 No 17 is seen on 11th April 1924 bringing
a goods train through the station 'wrong road' either to take it forward to the
GWR exchange sidings or as Arthur Jordan believes "to take on to Broom
Junction". As he wrongly attributes the year to 1911 we cannot be sure that the
working was indeed the late running 3:15pm. Arthur recounts that it was
standard practice to start for Broom from this platform as the train could get
a better run at the 1:40 climb over the GWR line. The locomotive was one of a
pair (the other was No 18) of Beyer Peacock locomotives delivered new to the
SMJ on its formation in 1908 and was later renumbered as No 2310 by the LMS
before it was withdrawn in 1925.
