LMS Route: Trent Valley Line
Brinklow Station: lnwr_brin1093
LMS 4-6-2 Coronation class No 6224 'Princess Alexandria', a
streamlined pacific locomotive, is seen on the down Coronation Scot passing
Brinklow station circa 1939. This locomotive can be seen in its de-streamlined
in image "lnwr_brin1092" some nine years later.
Note the oil lamps on the platform which was common throughout the railway
network. On the up line a ladder can be seen leaning against a lamppost
presumably used to light the lamp, trim the wick and refill the oil all by
hand. Built at Crewe works in July 1937 No 6224 remained in service, although
its streamlining was later removed, until October 1963 when it was withdrawn
from Polmadie shed in Glasgow to be scrapped during October 1963 at Crewe
works.
