LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton

Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk3010

Berkswell Station's up home signals, the one on the left for Tile Hill and the one on the right for Kenilworth Junction seen on 2nd October 1961

Berkswell Station's up home signals, the one on the left for Tile Hill and the one on the right for Kenilworth Junction seen on 2nd October 1961. The repeater arms at the base of both lattice posts were required because the height of the top arms would, in certain circumstances, not be very visible. Normal height signals were not an option due to the poor visibility caused by the curved track and bridges over the line when approaching the station. Its interesting to note that when the LNWR signals with timber posts were replaced (see 'lnwrberk525a') the starting signal for Hampton (see image 'lnwrberk3014') had its co-acting (or repeating arm) removed whilst the up home signals seen above which did not have any, had them added.
