Looking West along the now widened Platform 1 with the South Staffordshire bay on the right and the through line on the left. On the left two coaches bear destination boards, the second displaying Leamington and the fourth Hampton. the coaching stock When originally built the bay on the right had three roads with the central track being used to store coaching stock. In order to widen Platform One, thought to have occurred in 1874 when the passenger footbridge was rebuilt, the platform was increased in width so that the central storage road became the line adjacent to the platform. Both the Midland and LNWR continued to use both parts of the station for the next four years until the extension was given over to the Midland Railway for their dedicated use. This photograph was taken on the same day in September 1885 as images 'lnwrbns_str405', 'lnwrbns_str1866' and was probably associated with opening of the extension to New Street station.
