New Street station
Birmingham New Street Station: lnwrbns_str4302
Another view looking West along the now widened Platform 1
with the South Staffordshire bay on the right and the through line on the left.
When compared to the view of image 'lnwrbns_str402' the semicircular frame at the top
of the stairs has no advertising so just the framework is visible. The presence
of milk churns shows that this traffic wasn't just confined to rural stations.
There were two rates charged for the transportation of milk, the most costly
being the same as charged for parcel traffic which meant that the LNWR took
full responsibility for its safe passage. The cheaper rate had a variety of
conditions which placed a lot of the responsibility on to the customer.
