Monument Lane Shed: lnwrmlsh2187a

Close up of image 'lnwrmlsh2187' showing a mix of visiting locomotives together with locomotives allocated to Monument Lane. Stabled in front of the shed are at least two named but unidentified locomotives, a Patriot class and a Rebuilt Royal Scot class locomotives. Monument Lane had lost its last named locomotive in 1936 when ex-LNWR 4-6-0 'Prince of Wales' class No 25673 'Lusitania' was allocated elsewhere but visiting locomotives brought many others to the delight of the enthusiast. The close proximity of New Street meant that many locomotives using the LNWR lines into New Street were serviced at the shed. In addition, summer and relief work in particular placed a considerable extra burden on the shed. Their limited allocation of passenger locomotives meant that 'Control' would need to draft in additional locomotives on loan from sheds such as Aston, Bushbury and Crewe.
