Close up looking along Rugby's down through lines southwards towards the Great Central bridge

Close up looking along Rugby's down through lines southwards towards the Great Central bridge. The express on the left is pasing Rugby on the down main whilst the the lines on the right are the down through goods which led off from the Northampton lines. The track in the centre is siding No 5 which led to Rugby's Horse and Carriage landing. This track ran for a short distance alongside another siding, which was entered from the south, and whose bufferstops can be seen between the two stationary vans. See 'lnwrrm2537' for a plan showing the through lines and sidings. David Hanson noted in Letters to the Editorin LNWR Journal Volume 5 Edition No 4 that 'these sidings were used for attaching and detaching odd vehicles and for engine changing, and until they were removed one could sometimes see defective carriages dropped off there'.
