LMS Route: Birmingham New Street to Lichfield

Sutton Coldfield Station: lnwrsc4269

Sutton Coldfield's stationmaster, William Rivitt, stands with his wife and daughter on the footbridge circa 1912

Taken around 1912, the bridge was at the south end of the station. The platform building was likely to have been removed after the 1955 crash which damaged a lot of the platforms and to the left can be seen wagons on the rails of the original terminal station leading to the turntable. The people on the bridge are the stationmaster, William Rivitt, his wife, and daughter."

Paul Rivitt (Great Grandson)

Looking towards Lichfield from mid-way along the down platform with the main station building seen on the left

  • Position A is the photograph of William, his wife and daughter standing on the footbridgefootbridge.
  • Position B is where William Rivitt's Daughter in Law, Ruby (nee Lucas) Rivett is seen standing in a rose bed adjacent to Sutton Coldfield station.
  • Position C is where William's family are seen to be feeding the chickens. These would be Paul's paternal Great Grandmother, her daughter and her daughter-in-law[my Grandmother).
