Bournville shed's coaling stage with water crane's placed on either side to facilitate easy coaling and watering. The coal would be tipped from tubs (see image 'mrb1497') from a short runway which projected out from the centre of the side elevation. On either side of the coaling runway are three open sections which are sheeted to protect the coaling staff from inclement and windy weather. On the side elevation are the stairs which led up to the office where a clerk would record the amount of coal being supplied to each locomotive.
