MR 0-6-0 No 645 passes through the yard on a goods train.
The locomotive appears to be in immaculate condition with the lining quite
apparent on the boiler and tender. Nick Leverton wrote to me advising, "as a
concession to modernity and to the enginemen, No 645 have been fitted with
half-cabs instead of the "bent" iron weatherboard that No 630 (at least) would probably have had as new. Even
though No 645 and No 630 are goods engines they are both finished in the
Midland Railway's rich crimson lake livery.
John Shelley wrote to me stating No 645 was built in 1868 by
Dubs &Co as a member of the MR's 480 class. She was rebuilt in 1883 and
renumbered to 2563 in the 1907 renumbering scheme and lasted for another 23
years being withdrawn in December 1930.
