LMS Route: The Shakespeare Route

Looking along the E&WJR's line towards Ettington station with the limestone exchange facilities in the distance. The absence of a buffer stop or even a timber sleeper laid across the rails is puzzling as the only safety precaution to ensure any run away wagons did not foul the main running line appears to be the siding diverging away from the E&WJR's line. It might be an optical illusion but the siding does appear to rise as it gets nearer to the camera which might account for the absence of a stop.
