Its perhaps no accident that in the foreground on the right a sleeper is strategically placed to bridge the shallow ditch, as the easiest way to the Ettington would have been via the E&WJR line to Ettington station. With a limited service in place for both goods and passenger traffic the workmen would have been quite aware of the timings of trains and able to avoid any accidents.
